Parents & Carers Charter

Supporting every young player, together
At Solihull Sonics, we are committed to providing a safe, positive and inspiring environment for all children and young people. In line with Basketball England’s safeguarding and conduct standards, we ask all parents and carers to work with us to uphold the values that make our club a welcoming community for every player — regardless of race, religion, background, gender or ability.

Supporting Your Child
We encourage parents and carers to:
•     Celebrate effort, improvement and enjoyment above results
•     Help players arrive on time, prepared and ready to learn
•     Promote a positive attitude towards training, games and teamwork
•     Reinforce the club’s values of respect, effort and community

Respecting Coaches, Officials & Volunteers
We ask parents and carers to:
•     Respect the decisions and leadership of coaches and officials
•     Allow coaches to coach without sideline instructions
•     Raise concerns calmly and through the appropriate club channels
•     Recognise the time and commitment given by all volunteers

Creating a Safe & Inclusive Environment
Parents and carers play a key role in helping us:
•     Maintain a welcoming, inclusive and respectful atmosphere for everyone, regardless of race, religion or background
•     Challenge and report bullying, discrimination or poor behaviour
•     Support the wellbeing of all players, not just their own
•     Follow safeguarding guidance and contact the Club Welfare Officer when needed

Positive Sideline Behaviour
We expect all parents and carers to:
•     Cheer positively and encourage all players
•     Avoid criticism of referees, coaches or young people
•     Model calm, respectful behaviour at all times
•     Promote fair play and good sportsmanship

Communication & Social Media
To keep our community safe and respectful, we ask parents and carers to:
•     Use club communication channels responsibly
•     Avoid posting negative or identifying content about children online
•     Seek consent before sharing photos or videos
•     Contact coaches and staff at appropriate times and through approved methods

Health, Welfare & Duty of Care
Parents and carers help us keep players safe by:
•     Sharing relevant medical or wellbeing information with coaches
•     Ensuring players have suitable kit, hydration and rest
•     Following injury, concussion and return‑to‑play guidance
•     Supporting the club in maintaining safe training and match environments

Working Together
By joining Solihull Sonics, parents and carers agree to:
•     Support club events and initiatives where possible
•     Help create a positive, community‑focused environment
•     Uphold the standards and values that define our club
